Aberdeen chief Dave Cormack not giving up on Jim Goodwin with St Mirren boss seriously interested in post

ST MIRREN have KO’d an approach from Aberdeen for gaffer Jim Goodwin.
But SunSport understands Pittodrie owner Dave Cormack is not prepared to accept no for an answer.
The Dons have targeted Buddies boss Goodie as one of their contenders to replace axed Stephen Glass.
Jack Ross, Neil Lennon and Paul Lambert are also in the frame for the job.
But Aberdeen’s initial bid to open talks with Goodwin was blocked by the Paisley club on Tuesday afternoon.
However, Goodwin is believed to be seriously interested in the post as he weighs up his future.
And it’s thought Cormack has not yet given up hope of at least holding talks with Irishman Goodwin, who has a £250,000 release clause in his contract with the Buddies.
Aberdeen were hoping they could speak to the 40-year-old without triggering that part of his deal.

But with Saints reluctant to lose their manager, the likelihood now is that the Dons’ US-based owner will need to make a more formal approach.
Goodwin is high on the Dons’ list having worked wonders at Saints since taking over as boss in the summer of 2019.
His side currently sit sixth in the Premiership and are through to the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup, where they will face Hearts next month.
Dons legend Willie Miller has urged Cormack not to “pussy-foot” around in hiring a new manager.
He said: “If Aberdeen think and feel that Jim Goodwin is the man that they want to lead the club, then go get him.
“All this pussy-footing around and taking too long to make up your mind. Listen, get the process and the procedure going. Get your shortlist and then go for the man you think you want.
“If Dave Cormack wants success at the club, then finance shouldn’t be a barrier.”
