Disappointed Niall McGinn has revealed he learned of Dundee's decision to sack James McPake on TV after leaving training.

It's been a whirlwind 48 hours at Dens Park with the 37-year-old handed his marching orders despite a recent upturn in results.

The club looked to be building momentum after a win over Hearts before progressing to the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup on Monday night against Peterhead.

But with McPake leaving the club on Wednesday, Mark McGhee was then named as Dundee manager the following day going into the clash with Celtic on Sunday.

Winger McGinn has stated at least some members of the squad were not told of the decision to change boss before leaving training, and instead found out on Sky Sports News.

Speaking ahead of the trip to Parkhead, McGinn told PLZ : "If I'm being honest, I was surprised.

"Literally, we had training and I was up the road in Aberdeen just for the night, then I just found out the news on Sky Sports News which was a big shock to me, coming off the back of two good results.

"But I've been around the game enough to know how football works, and how quickly things can change.

"(I'm) disappointed, yes. I've obviously just come to the club and I've just started to build a relationship with James, and that's all been taken away.

"I've been around long enough to know football and know the game.

"Here we are with a new manager, and we just have to get on with things."
