Jim Goodwin reveals Stephen Glass chat before accepting Aberdeen job after 'crazy' week

The new Dons boss spoke to his predecessor before taking the Pittodrie gig and addressed Scott Brown's links to his old job.

Jim Goodwin revealed he spoke to Stephen Glass before succeeding the axed Aberdeen boss at Pittodrie.


The former St Mirren boss has taken charge of his first Reds match after a “crazy” week with the Dons in action at Fir Park.


Glass was binned after just 11 months in charge despite his close relationship with Pittodrie chairman Dave Cormack.


And asked if he was concerned after the trigger was pulled so early on Glass, the Irishman told the BBC: “I spoke to Stephen Glass briefly over the last couple of days because I’ve got a lot of time for him.

“I’ve always enjoyed his company. I don’t know him personally but during his short period of time as manager of Aberdeen we’ve had a number of conversations.

“It is what it is. It’s a results-driven business unfortunately and we have to make difficult decisions as a manager and a board and I’m not just looking forward.”

In another twist, Record Sport told you on Friday night that Aberdeen captain Scott Brown has been targeted for the Buddies job vacated by Goodwin.

And he said: “I can understand why Scott Brown would be among St Mirren’s candidates for the role.

“He’s very far on in his coaching badges and I know that’s probably the next stop in his pathway.

“But for now he’s under contract for Aberdeen. He’s out with a hamstring injury and I’m very much looking forward to having him part of the group when he’s match fit.

“I spoke to him to introduce myself. I know him from playing and managing against him but it’s important for a new manager to touch base with the club captain and I look forward to meeting him at the training ground on Monday.”
