Everton supporters have joked that Jean-Philippe Gbamin's move to CSKA Moscow might bring him more misfortune following a nightmare three years on Merseyside

Everton fans have all made the same gag over the misfortune of Jean-Philippe Gbamin after he secured a loan move to CSKA Moscow for the rest of the current campaign.

Gbamin has missed 86 fixtures through injury since signing for £25million back in 2019, and might now have moved into Russia as they teeter on the brink of war.

Russia's President Vladimir Putin has said that Ukraine has 'no history of being a true nation' amid US President Joe Biden's fear of invasion, with Boris Johnson mentioning "very dark signs" in a speech on Monday (February 21).

Everton fans have now offered a tongue-in-cheek response to Gbamin's transfer, suggesting that it would be just his luck to enter the country at the worst possible time.

One fan wrote: "Gbamin moving to CSKA Moscow only for World War III to start would be a brilliant summary of his career really."

With a second adding: "Gbamin getting into Russia on the last plane to Moscow just before the new Iron Curtain goes up is most certainly a very Gbamin turn of events."

A third continued: "If Russia end up in a war and draft people, my money's on Gbamin being the first person at random selected."

With a fourth concluding: "War will defo break out now with his luck"

The 26-year-old has only been able to make eight appearances in all competitions across two-and-a-half seasons with the Toffees since his move from Mainz 05.

He has missed a total of 619 days, which have included 86 fixtures.

Everton wrote on their website: "Jean-Philippe Gbamin has joined CSKA Moscow on loan for the remainder of the 2021/22 season.

"Gbamin, who joined the Blues from FSV Mainz in the summer of 2019, heads to the Russian Premier League outfit ahead of the second half of their campaign.

"While the English transfer window has been shut since the end of January, Russian clubs are able to complete moves until 22 February.

"CSKA, who are managed by former Russia international defender Aleksei Berezutski, currently sit fourth in the league standings – eight points behind leaders Zenit Saint Petersburg.

"The league's 11-week winter break comes to an end this weekend, with CSKA set to take on local rivals Spartak Moscow."
