James McPake breaks silence as former Dundee boss expresses 'disappointment' in Dens Park sacking

McPake was replaced by Mark McGhee with the Tayside club in fierce relegation battle.

James McPake has broken his silence after being sacked by Dundee just over a week ago.

He was replaced by ex-Motherwell and Aberdeen boss Mark McGhee after leaving the Dens Park club deep in a Premiership relegation battle.

Although he had won his last two games and believes the club were going in the right direction.

McPake addressed the players, staff and fans in an emotional tweet.

He tweeted: “Having had some time to reflect over the last week or so I wanted to express what an honour and privilege it was to manage Dundee Football Club.

”I am disappointed not to have the opportunity to finish the season as I believe we were on the right path to move up the table.

“The biggest sense of pride for me was seeing the young academy players, who I worked with at Under 18 level, progress to the first team.

"They are the future of the club and to be able to start them on their way after years of working with them gave me real pleasure.

“Finally, a word for the supporters. You backed me as a player, youth coach and manager. I loved my interactions over the years with you all and the backing that was given to the team was invaluable.

“I have made friends for life in the city and I wish the club every success for the future.”

McPake played for Dundee from 2014 to 2018 then became manager shortly after in an affiliation that lasted until nine days ago.
