Ian Evatt admits on the paper the clash on the road against Gillingham does appear to have the hallmarks of 'Kryptonite' for Bolton Wanderers this season but called for belief from his side and to stick to what they are good at to overcome any potential struggles.

The Gills host Wanderers at Priestfield this Saturday in a League One clash which has an impact on both spectrums of the promotion and relegation landscape.

Wanderers sit eight points from the top six as things stand and will be seeking to once again reduce their deficit to the play-offs with maximum points and hope results elsewhere go in their favour.

The Gills meanwhile sit just three points from safety in the relegation zone as things stand and are fighting to preserve their League One status.

Wanderers are expecting a tough physical clash on the road from a team seeking to remain in the third tier of English football.

This season, it has often been a scenario where Wanderers have come unstuck, such as clashes on the road to Fleetwood Town, Burton Albion and Morecambe among those where they have not picked up three points on their travels.

Evatt believes his side have sometime overcompensated in these fixtures to combat the approach they will face, when in reality what they need to do is be themselves and be good at what they do as he wants his side to not have any regrets.

And if they do end up losing, lose on their terms - something he felt they did not do against MK Dons last time out.

He said: “I am sat here and I can’t disagree with you, it seems to be our Kryptonite. There is no two ways about it.

“But only we can change that. We have tried different things, set-ups, personnel, but we just need to be us and good at what we do.

“No disrespect to Gillingham at all but we have to back ourselves to be a better team than they are, simple as that.

“I need my players to go out and believe in themselves, trust each other, and play the way we coach them to play.

“If that isn’t good enough, then fine, lose on our terms. But don’t have any regrets. I felt for the first time in a long time on Saturday that we lost with regrets.

"I don’t think we did ourselves justice, I think we are better than that, and we have to show it against Gillingham.

“We were scarred from Plymouth and Fleetwood and then we got a result at Morecambe but didn’t really look like ourselves. We went to Burton and had six minutes of complete madness and not played the way my team should be playing and doing things that do not come naturally to us.

“We just need to concentrate on doing what we do well. I think that is the answer.

“I don’t want to come off the pitch on Saturday with regrets. If you lose a game then fine, but lose it on your own terms.”
