Tottenham ‘listening to offers’ for Emerson Royal as Matt Doherty turns into ‘Irish Cafu’ and ex-target Takehiro Tomiyasu thrives at Arsenal

Tottenham are listening to offers for defender Emerson Royal, less than a year after he joined the club.

The Brazilian full-back joined the club from Barcelona for £26million but has struggled to settle in at Spurs.

He's started 17 Premier League matches but a series of erratic displays has seen him come in for criticism.

The Sun reports Spurs are willing to hear out any offers for the 23-year-old that come their way.

Recent matches have seen Emerson lose his place in the team to Matt Doherty, who's excellent performances have seen Spurs fans jokingly refer to him as the 'Irish Cafu'.

Doherty has started the last three matches and has scored once and provided three assists in his last two, meanwhile, Emerson has registered just one assist in the Premier League this term.

Spurs fans will also be wary of the form of Arsenal right-back Takehiro Tomiyasu, who's taken to life in north London very well having made the position his own.

It's understood Spurs actually had the option to sign the Japan international but opted to sign Emerson instead.

The report adds Nottingham Forest loan star Djed Spence could be signed as Emerson's replacement.

Spence's parent club is Middlesbrough, who dumped Antonio Conte's side out of the FA Cup earlier in March.
