David Goodwillie remains a Clyde player despite the League One club’s vow to ‘terminate’ the striker’s loan agreement last week.
Goodwillie, 32, rejoined his former club after his January move to Raith Rovers was met with a furious backlash that eventually led the Fife club to insist he would never play for them.
A loan switch back to Clyde was seen as a temporary option as Rovers and Goodwillie entered negotiations over the two-and-a-half-year deal he penned on transfer deadline day.
But that also sparked an angry reaction, including North Lanarkshire Council — owners of Clyde’s Broadwood Stadium — prohibiting Goodwillie from entering the ground and the Clyde women’s team severing ties with the club, just like their Raith counterparts.
As a result, Clyde announced last Thursday they were “in the process of terminating the loan agreement with Raith Rovers for David Goodwillie”.
It is understood, however, that an agreement has yet to be reached between all parties to tear up a contract that contained no ‘break clause’, and that Goodwillie remains registered as a Clyde player with the Scottish FA.
