Donald Trump's billionaire pal Woody Johnson 'makes £2billion offer for Chelsea'
Donald Trump's trusted friend and American billionaire Woody Johnson could be set to launch a last minute bid for Chelsea as Roman Abramovich looks to offload the club before Friday's deadline
A trusted friend of Donald Trump, Woody Johnson, is reportedly set to make an eleventh-hour bid for Chelsea.
Johnson, who is the current co-owner of the New York Jets and a former USA ambassador to the UK, could table a bid of around £2billion. However, Johnson's bid is considerably less than the £2.7billion tabled by the Saudi Media Group.
According to The Sun, Johnson is hoping that his links to London will help him purchase the club despite having a smaller bid. The American has until Friday - when Chelsea have set the deadline for interested parties to bid for the club.
A source told The Sun: “What Chelsea need right now is longevity and stability when it comes to a new owner. Woody and his team think they can provide that.
“He’s run the Jets successfully and knows a huge amount about the sports industry. And he’s spent the last four years in London and knows it well.”
Before adding: “Woody knows running a sports club means you must have deep pockets, and big commercial deals help with that. It also means Chelsea can continue to compete at the top of the game and dominate the transfer market.”

Roman Abramovich announced he was selling Chelsea earlier this month. But the sale has been complicated by the Russian being sanctioned by the UK Government due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Johnson, who is the heir to the Johnson & Johnson pharmaceutical dynasty, was appointed as ambassador by President Trump in 2017.
It's also believed that Johnson's wife, Suzanne, whose parents are Ukrainian, is close friends with Melania Trump.
