Regan Charles-Cook on Rangers racism storm as Ross County’s Prem top scorer shares surprise diet tip before Celtic clash

PREMIERSHIP top scorer Regan Charles-Cook has lifted the lid on the racism ordeal he underwent after scoring in the 3-3 draw against Rangers in January.

The match put a dent in Gers' title hopes and Charles-Cook claimed after the match that he “was extremely hurt and frustrated to come off the pitch and be left multiple messages of racist abuse".

Police Scotland launched an investigation shortly afterwards, with Ross County issuing a strongly worded statement backing their star.

The furore hasn't affected his performances on the pitch, though, and today the former Arsenal kid will hope to add to his impressive 13 Premiership goals at Celtic Park.

He told the Daily Mail: "You have so many of what people call "keyboard warriors" out there. And you're like, "Why?".

"It just annoyed me so much because it was such a great game.

"It was entertaining, there were six goals, it was on TV.

"It was a great advert for the game and you're like, "Why would you ruin a moment like that? Why?"

"I have left the police to deal with all of the fall-out.

"It was unnecessary, but the support I got on my social media was such that I couldn't even keep up.

'I even got gifts and cards sent to the club and it really felt like people were going the extra mile to support me.

"The feedback from fans, not just the Ross County supporters, came from all around the world.'

County fans and Aberdeen fans joined a minute's applause to make a stand against racism in the next home match.

Charles-Cook recalled: "I had a little tear in my eye that night.

"They have my back so much here. And the support I got from fans of other clubs was outstanding."

Charles-Cook and his partner-in-crime Joseph Hungbo have fired County to the cusp of a top six spot and the former has revealed that their exploits are fuelled by an unlikely dietary staple - apple crumble and custard.

He said: "Joseph is my little brother. We help each other out

"I am from Beckenham and he is from Camberwell, so we’re from similar areas in London.

"We clicked straight away. Sometimes we have days when the football is on and he’ll call me, “Regan, you busy? I’m coming round.”

"We have apple crumble and custard and he comes and watches the game.

"We don’t have it very often! It will be like maybe after a game.

"Generally, we eat very clean, but I don’t think there is a problem with treating yourself after a game.

"You need to get energy back in to your body. And we get ours from apple crumble and custard."
