Former Arsenal full-back Nacho Monreal has revealed that Mesut Ozil had a problem with 'everyone' at the Gunners.

Ozil unceremoniously split from the North London side last season after he fell out of favour with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta. The German had been a mercurial talent at the Gunners, and he had even picked up a World Cup winners medal while at Arsenal.

However, Ozil's former Arsenal teammate, Monreal, who is now at Real Sociedad, has revealed the German struggled to get on with numerous gaffers. Speaking to FourFourTwo, Monreal said: "Ozil's problem is that he had problems with everyone.

"It ended badly with Wenger, he didn't play the last few games with him, then Emery tried to bring him back and make him our leader.

"To begin with, he gave him a lot of confidence and Mesut played a lot, but the coach understood there were other teammates who were in better condition.

"Ozil was one of the best players in the team, one of the best paid, but they saw he wasn't at the level required. As a person, he was good with everyone, but he also missed a lot of games through injury."

Ozil joined Turkish giants Fenerbahce after leaving the Gunners in January 2021.

However, the Turkish side recently excluded Ozil, and fellow midfielder Ozan Tufan, from their squad seemingly out of nowhere.

The Fenerbahce statement read: "Our Football A-Team players Mesut Ozil and Ozan Tufan have been excluded from the squad as per the decision taken. It is announced to the public."
