Mehrdad Ghodoussi's response after David Ginola's passionate Newcastle 'identity' Sky Sports plea

David Ginola passionately delivered a plan for Newcastle United's future following their heavy defeat at Tottenham

Newcastle United co-owners Mehrdad Ghodoussi and Amanda Staveley met with Magpies legend David Ginola following the heavy defeat at Tottenham. The pair were in the stands at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday as Eddie Howe's side suffered a third straight defeat in a 5-1 thrashing.

Fabian Schar fired the visitors in front, only for Ben Davies to equalise just minutes later as the sides went into the break level. However, Newcastle crumbled and conceded three times in 15 minutes before a late strike from substitute Steven Bergwijn cemented a humbling loss.

Howe's side remain nine points clear of the relegation zone, and will be hoping to secure their top-flight status in upcoming home fixtures with Wolves, Leicester City and Crystal Palace. However, the manner of the second-half collapse in the capital concerned Ginola in the Sky Sports studio.

The former Newcastle and Tottenham winger urged the head coach to reshape the team 'from scratch' in the upcoming windows, believing the former Bournemouth boss is trying to 'copycat' other sides without the required 'quality'. Beyond the expected flurry of transfer activity in the coming seasons, the Sky Sports pundit also believes Howe needs to instil a greater 'spirit' in his players.

Ginola's passionate plea resonated with disgruntled United supporters on social media in the aftermath of the defeat. The 55-year-old will presumably have been asked further on these views after meeting with both Ghodoussi and Staveley.

Ghodoussi posted on social media on Monday: "Great to spend time with David #nufc @nufc #newcastlelegend @teamginola." The co-owners have taken steps to rebuild bridges with club legends and cult heroes since last year's takeover, and the latest post was well-received by fans.

One Newcastle supporter posted: "Should be our new DoF - David Ginola has so much passion for the modern game, knows the club, understands the fans and should be heard as a voice for the sport - signing him now would eclipse when we signed him in the mid 90s." Another fan replied: "Great to see these connections, it'll help solidify what NUFC means to former players and what they would love to see for the club."
