Fabian Delph reveals Frank Lampard half-time message after Everton win over Manchester United

Fabian Delph has revealed the half-time message delivered by Frank Lampard during Everton's meeting with Manchester United was to simply 'stay in the game'.

The Blues found themselves one goal ahead at the interval courtesy of Anthony Gordon's deflected effort which beat David de Gea in the 27th minute of the match. Frank Lampard's side still had it all to do after the break, though, with the visitors waiting to hit back in the second half.

Everton managed to keep the Red Devils at bay in the end after a much-improved display, which was inspired by a returning midfield duo.

Allan was back in the team after serving his three-match ban while there was also a first start since December for Fabian Delph, who has missed much of the campaign through injury. The former Manchester City man impressed right up until being withdrawn in the closing stages, having been spurred on by a determination to right the wrongs of the 3-2 defeat to Burnley.

"Coming off the back of the last game, there was a lot of disappointment. Heads were down, as you can imagine, but it’s part of football: winning and losing. We needed to regroup and we did that. We came into the game with a good game plan, we stuck together and got three points," said Delph.

"We expected them to have chances, they’re a top team with top players. It was about sticking together, riding the storm and today we’ve managed to come away with three points. Honestly, it’s a massive relief for everyone associated with Everton.

"The half-time message was just to stay in the game. We felt good, we were compact. We knew that they were going to dominate the ball, it was about staying compact, communicating and riding that wave. It was good for me to get out there, I’m always one to help the lads. It’s a massive fight, but it’s one game at a time and we won’t get carried away. Last game we were down but we picked ourselves up and went again. The next game is just about getting points on the table and staying up."
