West Ham produced a second-leg masterclass to see off the challenge of Lyon and reach the quarter-finals of the Europa League on Thursday night in France – and Demba Ba has reacted with a five-word post on Twitter.
Following a well-battled 1-1 draw at the London Stadium last week, which saw West Ham forced to play with 10 men following the sending off of Aaron Cresswell for much of the game, West Ham won 3-0 in Lyon.
Goals from Craig Dawson, Declan Rice and Jarrod Bowen saw West Ham cruise to victory – in what was a woeful performance from Peter Bosz’s side. So much so, Tottenham loanee Tanguy Ndombele was hooked at half time.
So, West Ham reach the semi-finals of the Europa League, where they will take on surprise contenders Eintracht Frankfurt – who have knocked Barcelona out. Rangers will face Leipzig in the other semi-final.
A surprise clutch of names in the last four of the competition – which make West Ham arguably in with a shout of winning the entire tournament. Demba Ba reacted to West Ham’s win, with a five-word Tweet.
Demba Ba on West Ham: Can they win Europa League trophy?
You would have to fancy them. West Ham take on a Frankfurt side that did beat Barcelona, but only sit in ninth place in the 18-team Bundesliga table. They have picked up just 10 league wins from 29 Bundesliga outings.
The favourites for the competition, as things stand, will be RB Leipzig – who will be fully expecting to see off the challenge of Rangers. But Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side did beat Dortmund on their way to the last four.
