Liverpool showed Manchester City a weakness in their Champions League draw with Benfica this week, and the Blues must use that to their advantage in the FA Cup on Saturday.

That is the verdict of former City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips, who believes his old side can definitely win the treble this season. City are a point ahead of Liverpool in the Premier League, with both clubs in the Champions League semi-finals, and they face each other in the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday.

As City came through a bruising clash with Atletico Madrid this week with some injury concerns, Liverpool rested seven key players as they took advantage of a 3-1 first leg lead over Benfica. Despite that, Wright-Phillips says their defending in the subsequent 3-3 draw with Benfica should give City hope for another huge game this weekend.

Speaking to Lord Ping, Wright-Phillips said of City's treble chances: “It’s very realistic. I don’t think anyone should see it any other way. The fact they’ve got Liverpool again in the FA Cup after Liverpool conceded three goals to Benfica, it puts City in a stronger position.

"The City players will see there are chances there and if they take their chances they can get through that cup game as well. You’ve then got the Premier League to come and I still feel City are in the driving seat.

"With the Champions League, if they defend the way they’ve defended and play the way they’ve been playing, I think they’ll go all the way.

“Liverpool and City are two of the best teams in the world at this present time. They’ve been improving drastically every season. They just keep getting better and better. One thing we will see from this game is two heavyweights going pound for pound, which they’ve shown twice already this season.

"Neither of them back down or change their style of play to stop the other team, they just play the way they love, which makes the game so good. I’ll predict 2-1 to City.”
