Andriy Yarmolenko tells Ukraine team-mate to "f*** off" and "you mean nothing to me now"

Andriy Yarmolenko says he asked former Ukrainian team-mate and Zenit assistant manager Anatoliy Tymoshchuk "how he sleeps at night" given his silence over Russia's invasion

West Ham United star Andriy Yarmolenko has revealed that his relationship with Ukraine team-mate Anatoliy Tymoshchuk has completely broken down following Russia's invasion of their homeland.

Tymoshchuk has been widely condemned for refusing to speak out against Vladimir Putin, particularly as he's Russian Premier League side Zenit St Petersburg's current assistant manager, and was subsequently stripped of his coaching license and titles by the Ukrainian FA for continuing to work for a "club of the aggressor".

Earlier this week, Yarmolenko said he spoke to his former international team-mate and close friend on the phone and asked him "how do you sleep at night?"

"He replied 'I don’t sleep'," Yarmolenko revealed, according to Zorya Londonsk. "Then he called me. I told him you used to be a role model for me, now you’re nothing.

"Then he told me to 'f*** off' and I told him the same and that’s that."

Tymoshchuk's refusal to condemn the Russian invasion is worsened by the fact that he's Ukraine's most capped player - as well as a former captain. He was considered a legend in his homeland prior to the conflict and was even voted his country's greatest ever player back in 2011.

Yarmolenko isn't the first Ukrainian footballer to speak out against Tymoshchuk with Atalanta midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi insisting he can no longer be considered a legend.

"I don't know about Tymoshchuk, you need to ask him. Hard to comment but it’s weird [why he's remained silent] - I think it’s not right," Malinovskyi tweeted.

"It’s 100 per cent the case that he’s no longer (or ever will be) a legend of Ukraine football. His previous achievements have been forgotten."

Ukrainian sports stars have banded together en masse to help with the national war effort in whatever way they can.

Heavyweight boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk and former boxers Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko have been spotted on the front-line while former Chelsea Andriy Shevchenko has been appealing for help from around the world to bring an end to the fighting.
