Darren Fletcher 'banned' by Manchester United from shouting instructions

Manchester United have announced the appointment of new boss Erik ten Hag earlier but his background staff are yet to be finalised.

Former Scotland captain Darren Fletcher is reportedly not allowed to shout instructions to Manchester United players on matchdays due to a ban by interim boss Ralf Rangnick.

The Dalkeith-born star and current director of football at Old Trafford sits on the bench during United's matches, but has been warned by interim boss Ragnick to stay quiet.

The Red Devils have struggled during the German's time in charge, with their most recent clash ending in 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Liverpool at Anfield.

Fletcher is never too far away from the action on the pitch, but has been banned from advising the players on the pitch during the action by the club's gaffer.

Fletcher returned to Manchester United to coach their under 16s team back in October 2020.

He has since been promoted to a first-team coach, becoming the technical director in March this year.

Fletcher is part of United's background staff alongside Sir Alex Ferguson's former assistant Mike Phelan and Eric Ramsay who was recently promoted from the academy coaching team by ex-gaffer Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

United will be under new management again next season as the club confirmed the appointment of Dutchman Erik ten Hag.

Initially, the ailing English Premier League giants asked their new boss to evaluate the club's current backroom staff before bringing in his own assistant.

The club showed some resistance over the appointment of a number two, with discussions said to have been ongoing earlier today.

However, the club have since retreated their reluctancy, with Englishman Steve McClaren making a return to Old Trafford in support of the new boss.

The Dutchman looks to have won his first battle with his new club and is set to appoint his friend and former colleague McClaren alongside current Ajax assistant and ex-Motherwell man Mitchell Van der Gaag as his two assistants.

Ten Hag is said to want McClaren in his team because of his experience of English football as well as his knowledge of United during their success under club legend Alex Ferguson.

McClaren joined the club midway through the 1999 Treble-winning season and remained until 2001 when he left to pursue his own management career with Middlesborough.

With the new gaffer already making way for his background staff, the current coaching team - including Fletcher - may be feeling the uncertainty as the club looks to turn things around after another disastrous season this year.
