Charlie Austin leaps to the defence of Leeds boss Jesse Marsch, after Palace draw

Jesse Marsch has come in for some criticism on Monday night after Leeds secured a point away at Crystal Palace, with some disappointed with the defensive style of play. But Charlie Austin has defended the American boss.

Marsch, 48, watched on as his side went five games unbeaten in the Premier League – securing a second successive clean sheet against Patrick Vieira’s side. Palace were much the better team, but Leeds held firm.

In the end, the two sides drew 0-0 and it sees Leeds pick up 11 points from a possible 15. But with fans used to the excitement of Marcelo Bielsa’s attacking style, many voiced their disappointment on Twitter afterwards.

The overall belief from Leeds fans was that it was a solid performance and a good point given Palace’s dominance. But some were unhappy. Austin replied to one, and put a general Tweet out defending Marsch and Leeds.

Austin on Leeds, Marsch: Draw away at Palace is a very solid result

In the same fixture last season, Leeds were hammered 4-1 by Roy Hodgson’s Palace. Selhurst Park is a tricky place to go, they have beaten both Arsenal and Spurs 3-0 there this season – and held Manchester City to a 0-0 draw.

Leeds needed to get something from the trip to Palace ahead of their next three games against Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal and they have done just that. Now, the pressure is off somewhat, in the next three.
