Charlie Adam reckons Rangers should be given respect ahead of their mammoth Europa League semi-final against RB Leipzig at Ibrox.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst 's side go into the second leg hoping to overturn a one goal deficit after Angelino's goal was the difference in Germany last Thursday.

And despite their previous history of overcoming the underdog tag in the tournament already, Adam is shocked to see Rangers written off by many before a ball has even been kicked.

He reckons a 50,000 strong crowd cheering at Ibrox could see his former side reach a historic final in Seville against either West Ham or Eintracht Frankfurt.

When speaking to the talkSPORT Breakfast Show about the bookies firmly backing Rangers, Adam said: "It's interesting.

"Especially with the record they have had over the past three years when Steven came in until now, the record at home has been very, very good.

"Obviously Leipzig are a good side but at home you've got to give Rangers the respect.

"They have been able to turn these disadvantages into advantages over the last few years so I think it's going to be closer than what you think and it's going to be an unbelievable atmosphere."

Kemar Roofe and Aaron Ramsey are both pre-match injury doubts for the clash after picking up knocks in the Scottish Cup semi-final against Celtic.

And Adam believes having Roofe back to lead the line would be a huge boost for Rangers chances after Joe Aribo, Ryan Kent and Scott Wright made up a makeshift front three at the Red Bull Arena.

He added: "I think Roofe would be a big player for them if they can get him back in and available because they have obviously missed him.

"He gives them a different platform to play.

"He is obviously going to be a doubt but I think Rangers will just edge it. It might go the distance but we are hopefully in for a good game."
