Erling Haaland's transfer saga continues to rumble on - and it has now got Brighton star Enock Mwepu joking about a move to the AMEX for his former RB Salzburg teammate.

Haaland, 21, is heavily-linked with a move to Manchester City, with reports suggesting the Premier League leaders are set to trigger the Borussia Dortmund star's £62m release clause this summer.

Since joining Dortmund from Salzburg in January 2020, Leeds-born Haaland has gone on to score a remarkable 85 goals in 87 games for the German side.

Despite missing a number of games through injury this campaign, he has still managed 28 goals in 28 games to help Dortmund to second place in the Bundesliga.

Mwepu, who played with Haaland during their time together in Austria, heaped praise on the Norway striker and believes he has what it takes to be a huge success in the Premier League.

"It has been a while since I spoke with him, we used to speak regularly, but I think he is a good guy", Mwepu told talkSPORT in an exclusive interview.

"Hopefully he makes a move to the Premier League. I think it will be interesting to meet a former teammate who you used to play with, but is now on the opposite side.

"The Premier League is really tough, but looking at what he has done in the Champions League, in the Bundesliga, he has been phenomenal.

"I think he is courageous enough to come to the Premier League and still score those goals, especially if he joins Manchester City. He can still continue with his goalscoring form."

The 24-year-old smiled and laughed, before insisting Haaland should consider joining him on the South Coast.

"Maybe I can tell him to join Brighton!" Mwepu joked.

"I would tell him to come over to the Premier League, it is the toughest league, the best league and every game is exciting. So hopefully he will come."

The Zambia international is also keen to help Brighton secure European football next campaign.

"As players, we always want to play in the European competitions", the midfielder said.

"I think looking at how we have played this season, of course we have had some good and some bad games.

"Overall, I think looking at the perspective, I believe we can try to push for a European place."
