CHARLIE ADAM admits he could quit playing if Dundee axe him.

The 36-year-old faces an uncertain future, with his horror blunder in a 2-0 loss to St Mirren all but relegating the Dark Blues.

But Adam, who helped his boyhood heroes into the top flight last season, insists he could never play for another Scottish side.

He hasn’t given up hope of extending his stay at Dens.

But he said: “Would I consider playing on anywhere else? No I don’t think so, not in Scotland.

“I only want to play here and if that isn’t to be then I have a decision to make.

“Will I stay on? It’s not my decision.

“This is my boyhood club and I’d love to be here next season but it’s not about me, it’s about what is best for the club.

“If that is for me to leave and give other boys opportunities, no problem.

“I have loved it here but it’s up to the owners and whoever the manager is what happens next.

“It’s not the way I’d like to leave if that’s what happens, but we’ll need to wait and see.”

Adam has never hidden his desire to step into the dugout when he retires.

His experience could see a number of clubs try to tempt the ex-Liverpool and Scotland star with a first crack at management.

But he insists he’s in no rush to make a decision.

He added: “If there was nothing else then I would look to retire and go into coaching or management.

“It’s not about me. I was lucky to get a chance here from James McPake and we won promotion to the Premiership.

“We will make that decision in a few weeks, it’s been a tough season for everyone on and off the pitch. But this is so tough to take.”

Dundee have two Premiership games left to play this campaign - with Hibs first up tomorrow night.

They then travel to Livingston on the final day of the season.

McGhee and Co are six points behind St Johnstone and seven goals worse off in the goal difference stakes.
