Wor Flags volunteers met their heroes as they were invited to meet the Newcastle United first team. Those who have helped organise the Magpies’ breathtaking pre-match displays this season got the chance to meet Eddie Howe and the players on Friday.

The sea of black-and-white before every home game has become the envy of rival fans since Wor Flags returned to action post-takeover. Stunned volunteers were pictured at the club’s Benton training ground alongside Howe, his coaching staff and the first team.

The fan-funded group also revealed that co-owner Jamie Reuben had made a sizable donation ahead of Monday’s home clash against Arsenal. Wor Flags tweeted: “Quite a surreal day for many of us, topped off with a donation from @jamiereuben. We can’t thank everyone @NUFC enough. Roll on Monday.”

Newcastle fans have been urged by the group to attend their seat early ahead of Monday’s game. Every seat in the ground will have an item to wave as St James’ Park hosts its final fixture of the campaign.

A spokesman for Wor Flags told ChronicleLive during the week: “It's really important fans are in their seats early before kick-off because if they're not it can look a little patchy and it might not look as great as what it could do.

“We've seen some of the scenes around Europe, in the Champions League and Europa League where some teams are putting on incredible displays and that is exactly what we want but it requires everyone to be in their seat beforehand and not coming in just after kick-off!

“We plead with people to be there and help make this a display that everyone can be involved in - and will remember for a long time to come. So please, please be in your seats before kick-off - a good 5-10 minutes before the teams come out so you can help make it look absolutely incredible on the Sky cameras and make our displays envied across the country if not Europe.”
