Borussia Dortmund announce that they have parted company with head coach Marco Rose, despite finishing in second place to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.

Borussia Dortmund have announced that they have sacked head coach Marco Rose after just one season in charge.

Dortmund had been in contention for the Bundesliga title up until they suffered a 3-1 defeat at the home of eventual champions Bayern Munich in April.

Rose's side eventually ended the campaign eight points adrift of Bayern, but their early exit to Rangers in the Europa League has seemingly made the difference with the powers-that-be at the Westfalenstadion.

On Friday, a statement read: "BVB and coach Marco Rose end their relationship.

"Following an intensive season analysis on Thursday, including Rose, Watzke, Zorc, Kehl, and Sammer, the club has decided to move forward, and wishes Marco Rose the best of luck in his next opportunity."

While the 45-year-old departs Dortmund with 27 victories from 47 matches in all competitions, he had also overseen 16 defeats.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Edin Terzic could be appointed as head coach for the second time, his previously spell coming before Rose's arrival last summer.
