'For sure' - Brazil legend Cafu identifies 'similarities' with Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold

Brazil legend Cafu has praised Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold and identifies 'similarities' between himself and the Reds full-back

Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has received yet more praise from Brazil legend Cafu.


The Reds full-back has been in fine form this season, providing a key role in helping the club mount a quadruple-chasing challenge. Alexander-Arnold has 19 assists and two goals in all competitions this term, and earned nominations for the Premier League’s Player and Young Player of the Year awards.


Alexander-Arnold’s form has helped Liverpool challenge for the Premier League title and reach the Champions League final. He also played a key role in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup triumphs.

Brazil legend Cafu has previously reserved special praise for Alexander-Arnold, and now he’s done so again. Cafu has explained why he sees similarities from his own game to that of Alexander-Arnold.

"I have been following Alexander-Arnold and the campaign he has had at Liverpool,” Cafu told BBC Sport .

“His progress over the last few years has been amazing and for sure is one of the best right-backs in the world.

"He is young, strong and has developed hugely considering his age. He also has a lot of experience and I see a lot of similarities between him and myself.

"We both had a will and commitment to attack, to go forward and have the boldness to shoot and to put the crosses in. The diagonal movements he makes on the pitch are also similar to what I was making as a player."
