Newcastle United full-back Kieran Trippier has sent an end of season message to supporters following their Premier League 2-1 victory over Burnley on Sunday afternoon.

The England international signed in January from Spanish side Atletico Madrid and made an instant impact with two goals in his opening four games. Tripper suffered a metatarsal fracture in the 1-0 win over Aston Villa in February before returning for the final three games of the season.

Trippier, 31, played the whole 90 minutes for the first time since his return against his old side as the Magpies won 2-1 to relegate Burnley to the Championship after six years in the top flight.

Callum Wilson scored either side of half-time at Turf Moor, with Maxwell Cornet's consolation not enough for Mike Jackson's side to conclude an impressive second half of the campaign for Newcastle.

The result means Eddie Howe's men finish the season in 11th, 14 points above the relegation zone after winning six of their previous eight games. Since Howe arrived at the club in November, fortunes have changed at St James' Park, after a horrendous start to the season under Steve Bruce.

After the game, Trippier sent a message to the Newcastle fans on his official Twitter page ahead of the summer break. "What a journey it’s been, excellent end to the campaign!" he messaged. Time to recharge & come back even stronger next season!"
