Caixinha, who managed the Light Blues for a year in 2017, took the reins at Telleres de Cordoba in the Argentine Premier Division back in March.

Windass turned out 55 times for Rangers in the Premiership, scoring 13 goals.

But since then the 28-year-old has been with English Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday.

He has a year left on his contract but boss Darren Moore is understood to be a huge fan.

Caixinha said: “Yes it’s true I want him.

“I got to work with Josh Windass at Rangers in Scotland and I keep in touch with him.

"He's a quality player.”

It comes after club president Andres Fassi told an Argentine radio station that Talleres are in talks with Windass.

He said: “We are in talks with an English player, who Pedro already had in Europe as a player, wants to come and live the experience of Argentine soccer.

“It is part of the negotiations that we will do in Buenos Aires.

"The footballer is Josh Windass.”

Wednesday have been coy on discussing transfer business however, and owner Dejphon Chansiri is keeping his cards close to his chest.

He said: "If we get offers for players that we can't refuse and we believe we can replace them, then we will make a decision."

Meanwhile, Rangers icon Ally McCoist gave incoming centre-back John Souttar a glowing review following his Scottish Cup display.

He said: “I thought Souttar was immense, he was brilliant on Saturday.

“There were a couple of forward runs from him and I thought he defended superbly. The ball was like a magnet to his head for a period in the game.

“You’ve got to handle things when you move to Rangers and Celtic.

“It was a tough gig for him. He was under a lot of scrutiny, but I thought he came through it with flying colours.

“I’d like to have seen him play against a centre-forward, right enough!

“But, seriously, he dealt with it all so well. So did big Craig Halkett, another boy I know really well. But I think Souttar showed he’s more than up for the challenge. I just hope he stays fit.”
