Former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has been released by A-League side Perth Glory.

Former Liverpool forward Daniel Sturridge has been released by Australian A-League side Perth Glory.

Sturridge signed for the Australian outfit in October but was unable to make an impact, only appearing six times and failing to score. He played just 139 minutes of football during his time at the club and was again unfortunately ravaged with injuries.

The former Liverpool man was one of seven players to leave Perth Glory after they finished bottom of the A-League after a disappointing season that saw them pick up just 18 points from 26 games.

Sturridge scored scored 67 goals in 160 appearances at Liverpool from 2012-2019 but has struggled with fitness since being part of the devastating Sturridge-Suarez-Sterling frontline that nearly secured Liverpool the 2013/14 Premier League title. Sturridge scored 22 goals that season and was named in the PFA Team of the Year.

Injuries then troubled Sturridge and he never made more than 20 Premier League appearances in a season until his departure from Anfield in 2019. There were signs of a revival while at Trabzonspor in 2019/20 before he received a four-month ban for breaching betting rules. And while he hoped to revitalise his career in Australia, it hasn’t worked out as hoped for the now 32-year-old.

Reds fans will hope that their former striker who they have fond memories of can overcome his fitness struggles and end the latter years of his career on a high - he still has plenty of time to do so.
