William Saliba has been targeted after the Arsenal star was at fault for Denmark's winning goal against France in the Nations League.

The reigning champions were handed a huge blow as an Andreas Cornelius brace stole the points at the Stade De France, after Karim Benzema initially put the hosts ahead. The Trabzonspor star was on fire as his side caused a major upset, but the finger has been pointed at Saliba for allowing the winning goal to take place.

Saliba won the Ligue 1 young player of the year while on loan at Marseille, and there has been a lot of promise shown by the youngster. But it was a night to forget for Saliba, as he came off the bench to make a crucial error.

Arsenal fans have been longing for Mikel Arteta to play Saliba for some time, as he is yet to make a competitive appearance for the Gunners despite signing back in 2019. But after his error in the build up to Denmark's winner, some fans have poked fun at the star by saying he was 'bullied like he'd Shkodran Mustafi'.

One fan said: "William Saliba got bullied like he's Mustafi there," in a savage comparison with Arsenal's former defender. And another added: "William Saliba is trash."

One user said: "William saliba is TRASH omg, no way he didn’t track that man." Another added: "Saliba defending like a typical Arsenal defender."

The camera instantly cut to the bench after France were handed a shock loss, with Kylian Mbappe looking less than impressed. But one fan noticed that some defensive stars were actually laughing.

"Saliba's defence with the shoulder kick... Kimpembe laughs on the bench," One fan noticed. And another predicted that the Premier League may be too tough, as they added: "Saliba ain’t hacking the Prem."

Saliba has been told by Arteta that he has to return to Arsenal, despite the Frenchman hinting that he wants to stay at Marseille after such a successful season. But there are no assurances that he will start in Arteta's side next season.
