Robin Olsen reveals contract detail after completing Aston Villa transfer
Latest Aston Villa transfer news from BirminghamLive as new signing Robin Olsen discusses his permanent switch to Villa Park
Robin Olsen has revealed details about his permanent move to Aston Villa from Roma.
The Sweden number one joined Villa on loan in January, having been on loan at Championship side Sheffield United at the start of the season. The 32-year-old had to wait until the final day of the season to make his debut for Steven Gerrard’s side, replacing the injured Emiliano Martinez in the 3-2 defeat to Manchester City.
Olsen becomes Villa’s fourth summer signing of the transfer window, following Philippe Coutinho’s example in making his loan move permanent, while Boubacar Kamara and Diego are new arrivals at Villa Park. A club statement said that the goalkeeper had joined for an undisclosed fee, though it is understood that Villa had negotiated a €3.5million (£3m) option to buy Olsen in January.

The contract length of the deal was also omitted in the statement but the former Copenhagen shot-stopper helped to clarify the situation on social media. Writing on Instagram shortly after the deal had been announced, he said: “Really happy to be a part of this club the next 3 years. UTV”
The experienced goalkeeper has 57 Sweden caps and has featured at a World Cup, as well as playing in the Champions League. Despite having had limited playing time in a Villa shirt, he clearly impressed manager Steven Gerrard and his coaching staff at Bodymoor Heath.
Olsen will offer quality back-up to first-choice Emiliano Martinez and end a period of successive loans for the new Villa keeper. Signed by Roma in 2018, following Alisson’s departure to Liverpool, in a deal worth up to a reported £12million, he only spent a year at the club before temporary spells with Cagliari, Everton, Sheffield United and Villa.
