Matt Macey will finalise his exit from Hibernian on Wednesday as the towering goalkeeper moves back to London with Luton Town.

The 27-year-old is heading to the EFL Championship club in a five-figure deal that will rise close to £100,000 with add-ons. Macey is on his way out after 18 months in Leith in which he made 52 appearances including five in the run to the 2021 Scottish Cup Final.

He saved a spot kick at Hampden that day and was the club’s established No.1 last season. But the arrival of David Marshall this summer has edged Macey out and he will return to Luton where he spent a spell on loan from Arsenal in 2017. Meanwhile Hibs are locked in negotiations with Aiden McGeady as a deal for the 36-year-old former Celtic winger edges closer. McGeady is a free agent after his contract at Sunderland expired and is keen on a return to Scotland with his former boss Lee Johnson.

And Easter Road ace Josh Doig remains a target for Serie A duo Hellas Verona and Bologna. A source close to the player confirmed the Italian rivals’ interest to Record Sport .

Doig still has four years left on the deal he signed last year at Hibs and the Easter Road club would be unlikely to sell for under £3million. Watford had a £2.5m bid for the left-back booted out last summer and there was also interest from Burnley, Leeds and Arsenal.

Scotland U21 international Doig has made 78 top team appearances for Hibs since breaking through under Jack Ross two seasons ago. Bologna could make their move for the 20-year-old with former Hearts ace Aaron Hickey set to be sold this window. But Serie A rivals Verona are also showing serious interest and could make the first move.
