Sunderland have been linked with former Manchester United starlet Ravel Morrison, who is looking for a new club after his deal with Derby County expires at the end of June.

Once hyped up as one of England's hottest prospects, Morrison's career has not hit the heights that were necessarily expected of him.

Last season was just the first time the 29-year-old had made over 20 appearances since 2018, with the midfielder making 38 appearances in all competitions for Wayne Rooney's Derby.

And Football Insider reports Sunderland are just one of the clubs interested in signing Morrison this summer. Alongside the Black Cats, Preston and Huddersfield Town are two sides who are also said to be interested in Morrison.

However, our sister publication YorkshireLive understand Morrison is not on the Terriers radar at all and they won't be making a move for the out of contract midfielder.

Last season was perhaps the best of Morrison's career too. The Jamaican international had spent spells in Holland, Sweden, Mexico and Italy prior to ending up at Derby, where he almost helped the Rams pull off an incredible relegation escape following their 21 point deduction.

While the Rams were relegated last season, Morrison was one of their standout performers, scoring four goals and registering four assists in the Championship.

Should he sign for Sunderland, he would give them plenty of added quality in the middle of the park. While he might not reach the heights he was once projected too, there's no doubt Morrison is a decent Championship level midfielder who could help Sunderland stay up next season and solidify themselves.
