Fresh Morgan Sanson transfer claims made as Aston Villa braced for offer

BirminghamLive brings you the latest Aston Villa news as Morgan Sanson is linked with a move to Galatasaray

Morgan Sanson faces an uncertain future at Aston Villa after just 17 months in the Premier League.

He joined Villa in January 2021 for £16m from Marseille - who had been playing Champions League football during that campaign - and signed a five-year contract with the club. However, the Frenchman was only handed three Premier League starts under Dean Smith during 2020/21, while his game time last season was limited, too.

Sanson made just 10 appearances under Steven Gerrard last term, and started three games, against Chelsea, Manchester United and Wolves. He is yet to register his first Premier League goal contribution in claret and blue, but did make an assist in a EFL Trophy win over Wycombe Wanderers, having made a total of 20 appearances across all competitions.

Former Villa boss Smith said of his arrival: "Morgan has performed consistently at the highest level in French football for a number of seasons as well as in this season’s Champions League, and is a player with the quality and experience to play in any midfield position. He will add real competition for starting places and gives us more squad depth, which is vital to competing successfully in the Premier League."

But Villa fans have seen little of what the midfielder can produce, and now a transfer away from the club could be on the cards. Reports in Turkey suggest his time at B6 could be over this summer.

According to TRTSpor, Sanson is a 'priority' target for Galatasaray this summer, with Okan Buruk keen to bolster his midfield options this summer. The Istanbul-based club will submit an offer to Villa for Sanson in the coming days, according to the publication.
