Fans have been left in tears of laughter after Aiden McGeady was made to sign a new contract with an iconic ‘four colour pen’.

The winger joined Scottish Premiership side Hibernian last week. It marked the latest move for the 36-year-old, who has enjoyed spells at Celtic, Spartak Moscow, Everton and more recently Sunderland throughout his long career.

Hibs fans were understandably excited at the Irishman's arrival, but they were left equally entertained by the pen used to sign his new contract with the club. McGeady’s use of the legendary four colour primary school pen sent fans wild as they took to Twitter to reply to the official Hibernian account’s post.

One user wrote: “Wtf is that pen. I had that at primary school,” while another asked: “Could they not have given him a proper pen for the photos…”

A third joked: “Damn I see Hibs are using those expensive BICs - no expense spared!”

Another fan posted a hilarious picture of McGeady’s multi-coloured signature using the nostalgic pen.

Meanwhile, Hibernian manager Lee Johnson has expressed his delight at securing McGeady’s signature on a one-year deal.

Johnson said: "He will bring skill, experience and gravitas to our team. Aiden is a top player, has had a fantastic career to date and we aim to extend and accentuate his abilities within the blend of our new-look squad.

“We will also look to utilise Aiden’s fantastic leadership qualities to help guide and get the best out of our young forward players.”
