Brentford set to win five-club transfer race to bring Keane Lewis-Potter to Premier League

Hull City forward Keane Lewis-Potter has been credited with transfer interest from multiple Premier League clubs and his long-awaited move to the top-flight could now be close to coming to fruition

Brentford are reportedly close to completing the signing of Hull City forward Keane Lewis-Potter.

The attacker, who has been heavily linked with multiple Premier League clubs in recent windows, is believed to be close to signing for the Bees. West Ham United, Everton, Southampton and Nottingham Forest are all said to have an expressed an interest in signing Lewis-Potter.

But Brentford appear to have won the race with the England Under-21 international opting to chose a move to west London. H ull Live have reported that Brentford’s bid of £16million plus add-ons this week has made them the only club with a genuine chance of securing his signature, having previously had two tabled bids to sign the 21-year-old rejected in the past year.

While Hull City do not want to sell their most valuable asset, Lewis-Potter is said to have a strong aim to play in the Premier League and the Tigers will look to cash in while they can. The Athletic have reported that with add-ons, the deal would be worth up to £20m, which would smash Brentford’s club-record transfer fee.

Last summer, the Bees spent £13m on the signing of Norwegian international centre-back Kristoffer Ajer, but a move for Lewis-Potter would set a new club benchmark by some distance.

Lewis-Potter made his senior debut for City in November 2019 and during the last two seasons have proved to be a crucial player for the Tigers. In the 2020/21 League One campaign, the forward scored 13 league goals in 43 appearances as City won the title under Grant McCann.

The 21-year-old added 12 goals in 46 Championship appearances last term to keep Arveladze’s side in England’s second tier, and has goals in the last two years has led to transfer interest from the Premier League, as well as inclusion into England’s youth sides.

Should the deal go through, it would be the club’s first senior signing of the summer transfer window, although Brentford have signed Max Dickov and Max Wilcock for their B team from Stockport Town and Bolton Wanderers respectively.

In their first ever Premier League campaign under Frank during the 2021/22 campaign, the Bees finished 13 ^th in the table in an incredibly successful campaign.

During Brentford’s final 11 games of the season, they picked up 22 points from a possible 33 during a fantastic run that included a 4-1 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and a 0-0 draw at home to Tottenham Hotspur.

That was largely helped by the form of Christian Eriksen, who returned to football following a cardiac arrest suffered during the European Championships last year. However, Eriksen’s future is still up in the air, with his short-term contract expiring this week.
