Birmingham City have confirmed on Saturday that they have parted company with head coach Lee Bowyer.

The former Blues midfielder was in charge for 59 games across his spell in charge at St Andrew's after arriving from Charlton Athletic, winning 17 and losing 26. He helped the club secure their Championship status in the 2020/21 campaign before leading them to 20th last season.

Bowyer was reportedly informed of the decision on Saturday morning following a training session before the first team were called into a meeting and informed of the immediate change at the club.

"As a player and as Head Coach, Lee's commitment and dedication was never in question and we will always be thankful for his contribution both on the pitch and in the dugout.

Blues' current Far East owners are in the process of selling the club. However, a possible deal with former Watford owner Laurence Bassini has stalled following his period of exclusivity expired.

"He will always be welcomed back to St Andrew's," the statement continued.

"Along with his departure, Goalkeeper Coach, Andy Marshall, has also left the Football Club. We thank Andy for his efforts and wish him every success moving forward.

"A replacement Head Coach and support staff will be confirmed in due course."

Former QPR assistant John Eustace has been linked with the now-vacant head coach role at St Andrew's.
