Gylfi Sigurdsson is said to have agreed a lucrative move to Galatasaray after being released by Everton last month.

It is claimed the midfielder will earn £1.7million-a-season at the Turkish club, despite the fact he hasn't kicked a ball for over a year, according to AS Marca in Turkey.

He would join Adana Demirspor's Birkir Bjarnason as the second Icelandic player in the Turkish Super Lig, and the ninth in the division's history.

Having emerged from Reading's youth academy after being poached from Iceland as a teenager, Sigurdsson went on to make over 400 appearances in English football - with notable spells at Swansea City and Tottenham Hotspur.

He's also been a central figure in the Iceland national team's rise to prominence over the past few years, playing a major part in getting the country to its first ever European Championships in 2016, and its first ever World Cup two years later.
