Boris Johnson dubbed the 'Ralf Rangnick of politics' as PM finally quits No.10
With Bozo the Clown on his way out of No.10, football fans have been quick to draw parallels between prime minister Boris Johnson and former Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick
No power, no credibility and no real control over a team that should be doing a lot better than its position suggests. Sound familiar?
While Ralf Rangnick might be a morally superior man to Boris Johnson (not hard in any respect), there are distinct parallels between his time in charge of Manchester United and the position the prime minister currently finds himself in.
With BoJo now effectively the caretaker at No.10 after reluctantly agreeing to step down from his role in the Autumn, what is left of his authority is totally diminished. Rangnick experienced similar from the get-go as interim boss at Old Trafford after replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with several high-profile pundits suggesting the players did not have any respect for the veteran German.

Despite Johnson's disgraceful actions of the last couple of days, which serve no comparison to the upstanding character of Rangnick - however useless he might have been - they will now both go down as caretakers without power.
It is a fact that has not been lost on football fans on social media. "A 'caretaker Prime Minister' Boris Johnson the Ralf Rangnick of politics," exclaimed one.
As another wrote: "Boris Johnson will now be the equivalent of Ralf Rangnick at Man Utd. He’s in charge for the next few months and no one wants to play for him. #NadimZahawi is basically Paul Pogba. Turning up, doing a few tricks, underperforming and getting paid a massive wedge."
A third person added: "Boris gonna be like Rangnick in the interim and be even worse than what is currently going on." While another user commented: "Boris Johnson is effectively now Ralf Rangnick by becoming Caretaker Prime Minister. Give it Big Sam until the end of the season."

"Explain what's happening in Politics right now but in football terms," joked someone else. "Boris Johnson = Ralf Rangnick confirmed he's going. Hasn't been a success and it got worse as it went on. But still gets to finish the season, because the board haven't got round to sorting a replacement."
Reports on Thursday morning suggested that Johnson would resign at Conservative leader imminently. It is understood that he plans to continue as prime minister until the Autumn to allow time for a Tory leadership contest to take place.
