‘It was scary!’ – Brentford new boy Aaron Hickey relieved ex-Celtic hero Kris Ajer is a teammate and no longer opponent

AARON HICKEY has described coming up against Kristoffer Ajer as "scary."

He won't have to worry about that anymore, however, as the two are now teammates at Brentford.

Hickey completed his big-money switch to the Premier League side yesterday, making a stunning £18 million move to west London from Italian side Bologna.

The transfer sees the 20-year old Scotland star link up with Ajer, who made the move to the Bees himself from Celtic a year ago.

The Norway international is a familiar face for the Brentford new boy - the duo locked horns during Hickey's time in the Hearts first team prior to his move to Italy.

Speaking to Brentford's YouTube channel, Hickey said: "I played against Ajer once or twice.

"In the cup final a few years ago, will be nice to talk to him and stuff."

The pair did indeed clash in the 2019 Scottish Cup final, when an Odsonne Edouard double saw the Hoops earn a 2-1 win over Hearts to secure the domestic treble.

Keen to know more about what it was like to come up against his now-teammate, the Brentford presenter quizzed Hickey further - and he received a perhaps surprising answer!

The presenter asked: "What was it like playing against Kris?"

Hickey responded: "Scary, seeing him chase after you!

"He's a great player and it'll be nice to play alongside him."

The answer was clipped up on Brentford's Instagram story, where they gave Ajer the chance to respond to being labelled 'scary.'

However, the big defender side-stepped that and instead welcomed the former Jambos man to the club.

He said: "Finally, another Glaswegian in London!

"Welcome @aaronhickey51."

Hickey watched on as a young Brentford side beat Boreham Wood 2-0 in a pre-season friendly yesterday a fternoon.

The Bees side was skippered by former Celtic target Ivan Toney, with former Rangers kid Nathan Young-Coombes playing the second half.
