Andriy Yarmolenko has joined Al Ain on a free transfer from West Ham and will be playing under Serhiy Rebrov.

The former striker played with the Hammers in their Championship season in 2004-05 after moving from Tottenham, where he had an equally torrid time, scoring just 15 goals in 75 outings. With the Irons, the Ukrainian managed to score just twice in 33 matches in all competitions, before heading to Dynamo Kyiv as a free agent. And now he will be linking up with compatriot Yarmolenko, who has just left West Ham to head to the UAE.

Yarmolenko, who joined the Premier League side on a four-year deal from Borussia Dortmund in 2018, but could only muster 86 outings for David Moyes' side, scoring 13 goals along the way. Upon the announcement of his departure, the attacker wrote: "Thanks to all you fans and people at West Ham for all your support throughout the whole time. It didn't work out. But there were many happy and pleasant moments, for which I am grateful to everyone who was with me and supported me."

After Ukraine was invaded by Russia in February of this year, Yarmolenko caught the headlines by scoring the winner against Aston Villa, a strike that he called 'so emotional'. It was reported in May that he would be leaving the London Stadium when his contract expired.

Yarmolenko did not have the greatest success with West Ham but enjoyed a fruitful 2019-20 campaign when he scored five goals in 23 Premier League games.

The winger is hailed as one of the best-ever Ukrainian players, with only legendary Andriy Shevchenko netting more goals for the country than Yarmolenko. The former AC Milan striker has 48, while Yarmolenko has scored 45 from 109 caps.

Yarmolenko told the club's supporters via video on social media: "Hello Al Ain fans. I'm happy to join this big club. I promise you to fight for this T-shirt."

Rebrov will be going into his second year at the club, having won the league the season before.
