The boyhood Celtic fan was a fringe squad player, who was overlooked for opportunities in the first team by other Hoops bosses.

But Postecoglou gave him his chance in the club's pre-season fixtures last summer and Ralston hasn't looked back since.

Now 12 months after breaking into the team he's supported as a child, he has revealed how hard he's worked over the years to prove he's ready.

And he admits he couldn't have done it without his young daughter and family motivating him along the way.

Ralston said: "I never gave up on what I wanted in terms of, I always wanted to play here and I've been a Celtic fan all of my life.

"I just kept working hard and there was never a point where I stopped and there were things that happened like I've said before in my life, with having my daughter and things like that.

"It kicked me on and it gave me the motivation to go into training everyday even when I wasn't involved.

"And that then paid off going into the last season to take my opportunity, so I'm delighted with how things have went here, I'm enjoying my football, I'm enjoying being part of the team.

"But my main aim is to keep giving it all to the team and that's all I can do."

While Ralston knows how much he's earned his breakthrough after his hard work over the years.

He knows that without Postecoglou, he may never have got his big break.

And he insists the Celtic boss has changed him into the player he is today.

But he will stay grounded as he knows he still has a long way to go in his Hoops career.

He added: "It's no secret the manager has been great with me and how he's given me the opportunity to go and play.

"He's coached me in his style of football and how he wants to play and I've learned a lot.

"I've worked really hard as well and I will continue to work hard because I'm only young and I've got a lot to learn and a long way to go in my career so I just need to keep my head down and keeping working hard, that's the main thing.
