Open Goal Broomhill win in their first ever Lowland League fixture as Si Ferry makes Broadfoot and Slane decision

OPEN GOAL Broomhill FC have played their first ever fixture in the Lowland League.

New signing and ex-Rangers man Kirk Broadfoot got the nod from podcast mainstay Si Ferry, who started on the bench as fellow Open Goal host Paul Slane didn't make the team.

And it was a successful first outing for Ferry and co as they beat Spartans 2-1 at Broadwood.

Ex-Celtic ace Slaney had said previously that he is still months away from returning to action, since quitting football back in 2016.

The 30-year-old hasn't played since he left Clyde and has openly admitted he knows it's a tall order to get himself back to full match fitness.

Both Slane and Ferry have become immensely popular in the Scottish football world due to their Open Goal podcast and programmes.

Accompanied by the likes of Andy Halliday and Kevin Kyle, Ferry and Slane have sold out the Hydro on multiple occasions and boast over 100,000 subscribers on YouTube alone.

Broomhill were taken over in May by Ferry and his podcast team for the upcoming Lowland League campaign.

The newly-formed side will be heading across the Central belt region and the south as they will take on teams like recently relegated Cowdenbeath as well as the old firm and Hearts B teams.

A return in time for Slane looked unlikely, despite the airing of the Open Goal documentary 'Paul Slane: The Comeback'.

In the documentary you can see his new boss Ferry putting him through his paces as Slane struggles with the gruelling sessions

Ferry can be seen shouting at Slane to 'finish on a sprint' as the ex Premiership star musters the energy to finish a fast jog before collapsing to his knees.

Ferry, who was visually impressed with his pal, said: "Excellent, Slaney!

"What a good standard that was.

"Brilliant mate, good lad.

"Keep that going mate, you're doing great."

Slane, who was left to gather his thoughts and get his breath back, eventually tells the camera: "I thought there's no way I can get through this.

"That's how I felt. I whiteyed over there. I can see stars. It's going to be so hard to get back.

"You don't realise when you're out, you don't realise how fit these players are. Ten years out of the game, know what I mean?"
