Ex-Celtic icon in ‘no option’ transfer verdict on Chris Jullien as he warns club to act fast

FORMER Celtic hero Peter Grant has warned his side to act fast after having 'no option' but selling wantaway defender Christopher Jullien

The former Hoops midfielder admits that current Parkhead boss Ange Postecoglou's hands are tied for now with Moritz Jenz settling in and Carl Starfelt still recovering from a hamstring injury sustained on international duty.

Jullien's future at Parkhead has been up for debate since his botched move to German side Schalke last month and former Scotland no.2 Grant insists Celtic must act quickly to get the situation resolved.

He told Go Radio: "He's got no option just now but to play because Carl Starfelt isn't available.

"He's in a position where he's made his mind up and the club have no option but to sell him.

"In an ideal world Celtic would like to get rid of him this window."

Grant sympathised for the French defender who had to battle back from a horrific knee injury that kept him out for the second half of the ill-fated 10 in-a-row season and much of last season as Ange Postecoglou's side regained the title.

He believes that punters don't understand how the Covid-19 pandemic will have had an effect on footballers moving to Scotland and their day to day lives.

He continued: "I think people tend to forget how hard covid has been for some players who've came into the country and have been stuck in a flat on their own.

"They've not allowed to mix with anyone and he's had to come back from a terrible injury whilst doing that.

"There have been questions about his effort and commitment since he's returned but he's been back in training with the group for a while now and Ange has probably made his mind up.

"He's probably sat Jullien down and asked what his thoughts where and that's why we've probably seen the proposed move to Schalke.

I think he will have told him if you're not going to buy into it and if you'd prefer to go then we'll try and work it like that.

"I think they'll sell him before the end of the window."
