Albian Ajeti Celtic transfer hint dropped amid incoming striker interest

Ange Postecoglou has dropped a major hint Albian Ajeti is on his way out of Celtic this summer.

The frontman has endured a miserable spell in Scotland since his £5m switch from West Ham – and he’s missed a chunk of pre-season after his injury jinx struck again. Ajeti made just 17 appearances last term – scoring just three goals – and he’s fallen down the Parkhead strike pecking order following the arrival of Kyogo and Giorgos Giakoumakis.

Record Sport understands Postecoglou is still in the market for another frontman to further bolster the attacking options. Ferencvaros striker Ryan Mmaee is one that has been looked at. But any room for Ajeti is looking less likely, with the Swiss striker among a group of players Celtic are willing to let go. Keeper Vasilis Barkas has already departed on a season loan to Utrecht, with a view to a permanent deal, while Mikey Johnston could also be allowed to head out on a temporary switch.

Posteocoglou admitted Ajeti’s future at Celtic could change in the coming weeks. He said: “Ajeti has had a bit of a knee problem but he trained in Glasgow while we are in Poland last week. We’ll see what happens. There’s still time in this window and there will be some movement.”

The Premiership champions kick off their season against Aberdeen on Sunday as they will unfurl the league flag in front of a packed Celtic Park crowd.
