Celtic hero John Hartson praises Rangers’ new Welsh stars and predicts big impact from Tom Lawrence and Rabbi Matondo

JOHN HARTSON thinks Rangers have landed two of the best Wales can offer with their acquisitions of Tom Lawrence and Rabbi Matondo.

The former Celtic star is of course a proud Welshman and he's seen Lawrence and Matondo up close with the national team.

He's certain both players will have a big impact at Rangers and admitted their arrival at Ibrox has to go down as nothing but excellent business for Gers.

Hartson event went as far as to call out Wales boss Rob Page for not playing Lawrence more regularly.

Speaking on Go Radio about both of Rangers' new signings, Hartson said: " [They are] good players.

"I have seen a bit of Rabbi Matondo with the Welsh set-up, very quick, very direct, skilful, he's one for the future but I think he can make an impact.

"Tom Lawrence, lots of experience with the national team, with Derby, Wayne Rooney made him captain, that's how much he thought of him around the place.

"He can play along the front, anywhere through the middle or wide. Rob Page doesn't pick him for some reason.

"For me, two good players, two proud Welsh lads and two good signings, especially Matondo who is a threat.

"He likes to take players on. He only likes to go one way, one thing his mind, he's very positive. That's a good signing, Rabbi Matondo."

Meanwhile, former Gers boss Alex McLeish reckons Nikola Katic's time is up at Ibrox.

So much so that it feels like he's "already left".

McLeish told Football Insider: “It’s hard to see Nikola bursting onto the scene again.

“He has been out that long that you tended to think he might have already left the club.

"For me, there will be a little bit of nervousness about whether he will continue with this Rangers squad.

“Especially considering how well the current defenders have done.

"Could he be good cover? I don’t know the level he is at.

“That would be a matter for Giovanni and his coaches to assess and see whether he is fit to play the way they want.
