Hibs ace Aiden McGeady reveals training ground whispers around Martin Boyle transfer – and what could be holding it up

AIDEN MCGEADY has opened up on how gutted he is to be injured so early into his Hibs career.

And even though the man Hibs want to bring in could end up limiting his game time when he returns, McGeady believes a return for Martin Boyle would be a huge boost for all at Easter Road.

Former Celtic star McGeady, who just joined Hibs from Sunderland this summer, is out for around three months with ligament damage.

Boss Lee Johnson was an admirer of McGeady from their time at Sunderland and was keen to bring him back to Scottish football when he got the Hibs job.

But his plans to unleash McGeady have been derailed by the 36-year-old's latest injury.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, McGeady said: "It's part and parcel of football, just a re-occurrence of a medial ligament tear I had last season that's probably not healed properly.

"It's very, very disappointing because I'm at a new club and I want to enjoy my football. That's why I'm here. I still love playing football. I'll just have to see how it goes the next two or three weeks in my rehab."

SunSport exclusively revealed last week that Hibs had Boyle lined up for a sensational return to Leith.

McGeady revealed there have been whispers around the training ground on the subject and word has gotten out on what could be holding up the transfer.

He said: "I think there's an issue with something he's owed from the Saudi club. There's some sort of issue there but for us, he would give us an added boost, he's a proven top player at this level.

"I think looking at our squad he would definitely add something. He got his move and he deserved it. From a selfish point of view it would be good for us if he came back."

Meanwhile, ex-Celtic hero Tom Rogic could be nearing a sensational move that would see him link up with Neil Lennon.

More from The Scottish Sun

The 29-year old is close to joining former boss Lennon in Cyprus, according to a report.

Lennon, who managed Hibs in between two spells at Celtic, is now at Omonia Nicosia and has moved to bring the Aussie playmaker with him to Cyprus.
