And, following the exit, fans vented their disgust in the direction of Berardi.

As sometimes can be the case, one person overstepped the mark causing Berardi to react, jumping over the barrier and chasing after him.

Luckily, police were hot on the heels of the Italian star otherwise things could have taken a turn for the worse.

Security also intervened and helped restrain the forward to calm the situation down.

Berardi was on the scoresheet during the tie and despite the Serie A side falling two-goals behind within the first 30 minutes, the forward pulled one back from the penalty spot on the stroke of half time.

Modena extended their advantage shortly after the interval and even with a late Sassuolo strike two-minutes from time, last season’s Serie C champions held on to claim a 3-2 victory.

Sassuolo finished 11th in Serie A last season thanks in part to Berardi and new West Ham United striker Gianluca Scamacca as the pair struck up a solid partnership for the Neroverdi scoring 31 Serie A goals between them.

Berardi has spent the entirety of his career at Sassuolo, despite signing for Juventus in a co-ownership deal in 2013.

The Italian international was subsequently loaned back to Juventus for two seasons before the co-ownership was resolved in favour of Sassuolo who ‘signed’ the forward for 10million euros.

Berardi has registered 121 goals in 326 games for his club.
