Old clip re-emerges of Tony Adams' bizarre training dance after signing up for Strictly

Arsenal legend Tony Adams should have no problem on Strictly Come Dancing if old footage of his training sessions at Granada is anything to go by.

Gunners and England hero Adams, 55, was announced as a contestant on the 20th edition of the hit show on Wednesday morning, much to the delight of football fans up and down the land.

And following news of the former defender's future turn on the dancefloor, some supporters dug out a hilarious clip of Adams giving instructions in training as manager of Granada in 2017.

The video was posted early into his reign as boss of the Spanish side, where he was seen enthusiastically getting involved in an exercise, attempting to get his message across to his non-English speaking players.

The former Wycombe and Portsmouth manager moved his hands backwards and forwards and side to side in the clip before doing some over-exuberant shuttle runs, finishing up with further strange arm movements.

The clip went viral at the time, receiving attention on Soccer AM. Adams recreated his iconic moves during the first Covid lockdown two years ago, teaching them to members of his family in a video posted on Instagram.

Football fans will be hoping to see them for a third time when Adams puts his best foot forward on Strictly later this year. Speaking about his appearance on the show, Adams said: "To say I’m excited is an understatement - the lure of the sequins and the call of the salsa has me swapping my battered old football boots for a set of Strictly soft shoes.

"Am absolutely thrilled to be giving it my all on this year’s 20th anniversary of Strictly Come Dancing. I can’t wait to meet my partner - god help her - and start the dancing."
