The California-born 21-year-old began his career with the LA Galaxy Academy, and has had spells in Europe with German side Schalke as well as Mallorca.
He scored six goals in the Bundesliga and became the first American to score a hat-trick in the German top-flight.
Hoppe made his senior international debut for the US against Martinique in July 2021 and scored his first USA goal soon after in a win against Jamaica in the CONCACAF Gold Cup quarter-finals.
He is the second striker to join Boro this summer, following Marcus Forss, who scored his first goal for the club in Saturday's 3-2 defeat at QPR.
