Callum Robinson tries to copy Ismaila Sarr's 60-yard wondergoal - but fails miserably

Watford star Ismaila Sarr shocked the Championship on Monday with a 60-yard strike, and it even impressed West Brom striker Callum Robinson who tried to recreate the goal

West Brom striker Callum Robinson has tried to take a page out of Ismaila Sarr's book by scoring from range, but failed miserably on Thursday night.

Sarr stole the headlines on Monday night as he scored from 60-yards against West Brom away at the Hawthorns, and it clearly impressed the Irishman who was sat on the bench at the time. Robinson was an unused substitute as West Brom fought back to draw 1-1 with Watford, but the striker was given a start against Sheffield United in the EFL Cup on Thursday.

Again, the Hawthorns took centre stage, and while on the attack Robinson saw goalkeeper Wes Foderingham off his line. Robinson decided to try and recrate Sarr's wonderstrike, but unfortunately it ended in embarrassment for the Irishman.

Robinson led a counter-attack for West Brom, and the ball sat up rather nicely for the striker who had just passed the halfway line. With Sarr's strike in the back of his mind, he tried to replicate it and hit the ball on the half volley.

However, he got it all wrong, and scuffed the shot which eventually trickled well wide of the goal, and the keeper had time to collect it while everyone watched on in amazement. Thankfully for Robinson, West Brom still went on to win the game 1-0 and progress to the next round.

The trustworthy Karlan Grant came on and scored for the second game in a row to earn West Brom's first win of the season. Both Championship matches under Steve Bruce this season have ended level, drawing 1-1 to both Middlesbrough and Watford.

Robinson's strike may have been gained traction for all the wrong reasons, but Sarr's wondergoal came at the perfect time for the Senegalese forward. Sarr is Watford's standout talent, and fans were surprised to see him stay at the club due to their relegation from the Premier League.

But in the last few weeks, interest has picked up and both Newcastle and Leeds have been linked with a move. Leeds remains the more likely of the two at this stage, but his long-range goal will have only helped things.

Another Watford star that's subject to interest is Emmanuel Dennis, and Nottingham Forest have now agreed a £20million deal to sign the Nigerian. Watford were always bracing themselves for a raid, but the fact it's come so late into the summer will be a blow to the Hornets.
