Aston Villa 's pursuit of Ismaila Sarr has collapsed despite Watford agreeing a £25million fee to sell the winger.

Reports claim that personal terms and the structure of the transfer is what has caused the move to fall through as Steven Gerrard is handed another blow after a tricky start to the Premier League season. On the pitch, Villa have lost two of their opening three games and the club have returned to the transfer market to bolster Gerrard's squad.

Now that a move for Sarr has fallen through, Villa could target more attackers as the transfer deadline nears, especially after Bertrand Traore has sealed a season-long loan switch to Istanbul Basaksehir. Meanwhile, a centre-back is also on the club's agenda after Diego Carlos ruptured his Achilles tendon earlier this month.

Here are five alternatives to Sarr that Villa could pursue...

Callum Hudson-Odoi

The Chelsea winger could leave Stamford Bridge this summer amid reported interest from a number of Premier League clubs. Villa could be one of those clubs after moving for Sarr, but Blues boss Thomas Tuchel claims his squad is thin ahead of the transfer deadline next week.

“We will not encourage our players to go out at the moment,” he said. “We have had two training sessions with 18 players and in a schedule where we play once a week, it is not a problem. But if I look a little bit, raise the chin up a little bit and look at the schedule that is coming with Southampton during the week and two Champions League matches, it’s coming.

"It’s in front of the door. We will need a lot of players and quality players to be competitive. At the moment, as I said, we have what we have. We know what we’re looking for. From there we go and only from there we can think about letting players go.”

Sevilla are reportedly interested in signing Hudson-Odoi on loan as per Cadena SER (via Estadio Deportivo ). The Spanish club want more depth on the wings after Jesus Corona’s injury, and have already held talks with Chelsea. The 22-year-old started just 11 times for Chelsea in the Premier League last season and is yet to make an appearance this term.

Bryan Mbuemo

Brentford have made a solid start to the new Premier League season and are unlikely to sanction a transfer for any of their prized assets. Frenchman Mbuemo has been key to the club's success in recent seasons and Villa could be interested in a move if Gerrard wants to add more pace and quality to his attack.

Mbuemo recorded 11 goal contributions in 35 appearances last season and has scored one goal in Brentford's first three games this campaign. At 21 years of age, Mbuemo has a high ceiling and plenty to offer any Premier League side.

Jeremy Doku

The Belgium international faced Villa in a pre-season friendly last month as Gerrard's side beat Stade Rennais 2-1 in France. The 20-year-old burst onto the scene at Anderlecht and caught the attention of top Premier League clubs including Liverpool.

The Reds have previously been linked with a swoop for the Rennes teenager, and Calciomercato claims that the Merseyside giants are still keeping tabs on him after selling Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich this summer. Doku could add pace and quality to Villa's attack, like Sarr would have if a move materialised from Watford.

Samuel Chukwueze

Another livewire winger that Villa could turn to is Chukwueze of Villarreal. He was considered as one of the most exciting prospects in Spain after he came through the ranks of Villarreal's academy, but he is yet to fully fulfil his potential.

Perhaps a move to the Premier League could bring him on another level after scoring less than five goals in each of his last three La Liga campaigns. Chukwueze has been linked with Arsenal previously and could be of interest to Villa this summer.

Noni Modueke

PSV winger Madueke has been linked with a move to Villa, although the club have not firmed up their interest so far this window. Gerrard and his assistant Gary McAllister were spotted watching the England U21 international against Leicester in the Europa Conference League at the King Power Stadium last season.

The former Tottenham Hotspur star recorded six goal contributions in 18 league appearances for PSV last season. At 20 years of age, Madueke has plenty of potential to achieve big things in his career.
